سنن ابوداؤد

Ibn Umar reported: The pillars of the mosque of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم during the life time of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم were made of the trunks of the palm-tree; they covered from the above by twigs of the palm-tree; they decayed during the caliphate of Abu Bakr. He built it afresh with trunks and twigs of the palm-tree. But they again decayed during the caliphate of Uthman. He, therefore, built it with bricks. That survives until today.

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ

رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے زمانے میں مسجد نبوی کے ستون کھجور کی لکڑی کے تھے، اس کے اوپر کھجور کی شاخوں سے سایہ کر دیا گیا تھا، پھر وہ ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کی خلافت میں بوسیدہ ہو گئی تو انہوں نے اس کو کھجور کے تنوں اور اس کی ٹہنیوں سے بنوایا، پھر عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کی خلافت میں وہ بھی بوسیدہ ہو گئی تو انہوں نے اسے پکی اینٹوں سے بنوا دیا، جو اب تک باقی ہے۔
