سنن ابوداؤد

مجھ سے بیان کیا گیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ہے: بیٹھ کر پڑھنے والے شخص کی نماز آدھی نماز ہے ، میں آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آیا تو میں نے آپ کو بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھتے دیکھا تو میں نے ( تعجب سے ) اپنا ہاتھ اپنے سر پر رکھ لیا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پوچھا: عبداللہ بن عمرو! کیا بات ہے؟ ، میں نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! مجھ سے بیان کیا گیا ہے کہ آپ نے فرمایا ہے: بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھنے والے کو نصف ثواب ملتا ہے اور آپ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھ رہے ہیں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ہاں سچ ہے، لیکن میں تم میں سے کسی کی طرح نہیں ہوں ۱؎۔

Abdullah bin Amr said: It has been narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: The Prayer of a man in sitting condition is half the prayer (wins him half the reward of prayer). I came to him and found him prayer in sitting condition. I placed my hand on my head (in surprise). He said: what is the matter, Abdullah bin Amr? I said; Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم you have been reported to me as saying: the prayer of a man in sitting condition is half the prayer, but you are praying in sitting condition. He said: yes, but I am not like one of you.

انہوں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھنے والے شخص کے متعلق پوچھا تو آپ نے فرمایا: آدمی کا کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھنا بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھنے سے افضل ہے اور بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھنے میں کھڑے ہو کر پڑھنے کے مقابلہ میں نصف ثواب ہے ۱؎ اور لیٹ کر پڑھنے میں بیٹھ کر پڑھنے کے مقابلہ میں نصف ثواب ملتا ہے ۔

Abdullah bin Buraidah said: Imran bin Hussain asked the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم about the prayer a man offers in sitting condition. He replied: his prayer in standing condition is better than his prayer in sitting condition, and his prayer in sitting condition is half the prayer he offers in standing condition, and his prayer in lying condition is half the prayer he offers in sitting condition.

مجھے ناسور تھا ۱؎، میں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے پوچھا تو آپ نے فرمایا: تم کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھو، اگر کھڑے ہو کر پڑھنے کی طاقت نہ ہو تو بیٹھ کر پڑھو اور اگر بیٹھ کر پڑھنے کی طاقت نہ ہو تو ( لیٹ کر ) پہلو کے بل پڑھو ۔

Imran bin Husain said: I had a fistula; so I asked the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. He said: offer prayer in standing condition; if you are unable to do so, then in sitting condition: if you are then at your side (i. e, in lying condition).

میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو رات کی نماز کبھی بیٹھ کر پڑھتے ہوئے نہیں دیکھا یہاں تک کہ آپ عمر رسیدہ ہو گئے تو اس میں بیٹھ کر قرآت کرتے تھے پھر جب تیس یا چالیس آیتیں رہ جاتیں تو انہیں کھڑے ہو کر پڑھتے پھر سجدہ کرتے۔

Aishah said: I never saw the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم reciting the Quraan in his prayer at night in sitting condition until he became old. Then he used to sit in it (the prayer) and recite the Quran until forty or thirty verses remained, then he stood and recited them and prostrated himself.

نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھتے تو بیٹھ کر قرآت کرتے تھے، پھر جب تیس یا چالیس آیتوں کے بقدر قرآت رہ جاتی تو کھڑے ہو جاتے، پھر انہیں کھڑے ہو کر پڑھتے، پھر رکوع کرتے اور سجدہ کرتے، پھر دوسری رکعت میں ( بھی ) اسی طرح کرتے۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث علقمہ بن وقاص نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے، انہوں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے اسی طرح روایت کی ہے۔

Aishah, wife of the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, said: when the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم prayed sitting, he recited the Quran in sitting condition. When the amount of his recitation remained about thirty or forty verses he stood up and recited them standing. He then bowed and prostrated and then did so in the second Rak’ah of the prayer. Abu Dawud said: Alqamah bin Waqqas narrated this tradition on the authority of Aishah from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم to the same effect.

رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم رات میں کبھی دیر تک کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھتے اور کبھی دیر تک بیٹھ کر، جب کھڑے ہو کر پڑھتے تو رکوع بھی کھڑے ہو کر کرتے اور جب بیٹھ کر پڑھتے تو رکوع بھی بیٹھ کر کرتے۔

Aishah said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to pray standing at night for a long time, and used to pray sitting at night for a long time. When he prayed standing, he bowed standing, and when he prayed sitting, he bowed sitting.

میں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے پوچھا: کیا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پوری سورت ایک رکعت میں پڑھتے تھے؟ انہوں نے کہا: ( ہاں ) مفصل کی، پھر میں نے پوچھا: کیا آپ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھتے تھے؟ انہوں نے کہا: جس وقت لوگوں ( کے کثرت معاملات ) نے آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو شکستہ ( یعنی بوڑھا ) کر دیا۔

Abdullah bin Shaqiq said: I asked Aishah whether the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم recited a whole Surah (of the Quran) in one Rak’ah of the prayer. She replied: (He recited from among) the Mufassal surahs. I asked: Did he pray (at night) sitting? She replied: (he prayed sitting) when the people made him old.
