سنن ابن ماجہ

زینب کا نام بّرہ تھا ( یعنی نیک بخت اور صالحہ ) لوگوں نے اعتراض کیا کہ یہ اپنی تعریف آپ کرتی ہیں، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان کا نام بدل کر زینب رکھ دیا ۱؎۔

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that: Zainab used to be called Barrah (good), and it was said that she was praising herself. So the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) changed her name to Zainab.

عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کی ایک بیٹی کا نام عاصیہ تھا ( یعنی گنہگار، نافرمان ) تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان کا نام بدل کر جمیلہ رکھ دیا۔

It was narrated from Ibn Umar that: a daughter of 'Umar was Asiyah(disobedient) then the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) named her 'Jamilah' (beautiful).

جب میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا تو میرا نام اس وقت عبداللہ بن سلام نہ تھا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہی میرا نام عبداللہ بن سلام رکھا۔

It was narrated that Abdullah bin Salam said: I came to the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ), and my name was not Abdullah bin Salam. The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) named me Abdullah bin Salam.
