خباب رضی اللہ عنہ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس آئے، تو عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: میرے قریب بیٹھو، تم سے بڑھ کر میرے قریب بیٹھنے کا کوئی مستحق نہیں سوائے عمار رضی اللہ عنہ کے، پھر خباب رضی اللہ عنہ اپنی پیٹھ پر مشرکین کی مار پیٹ کے نشانات ان کو دکھانے لگے ۱؎۔

It was narrated that Abu Laila Al-Kindi said: Khabbab came to `Umar and said: 'Come close, for no one deserves this meeting more than you, except `Ammar.' Then Khabbab started to show him the marks on his back where the idolaters had tortured him.

رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: میری امت میں سب سے زیادہ میری امت پر رحم کرنے والے ابوبکر ہیں، اللہ کے دین میں سب سے زیادہ سخت اور مضبوط عمر ہیں، حیاء میں سب سے زیادہ حیاء والے عثمان ہیں، سب سے بہتر قاضی علی بن ابی طالب ہیں، سب سے بہتر قاری ابی بن کعب ہیں، سب سے زیادہ حلال و حرام کے جاننے والے معاذ بن جبل ہیں، اور سب سے زیادہ فرائض ( میراث تقسیم ) کے جاننے والے زید بن ثابت ہیں، سنو! ہر امت کا ایک امین ہوا کرتا ہے، اور اس امت کے امین ابوعبیدہ بن جراح ہیں ۱؎۔

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that: The Messenger of Allah said: The most merciful of my Ummah towards my Ummah is Abu Bakr; the one who adheres most sternly to the religion of Allah is 'Umar; the most sincere of them in shyness and modesty is 'Uthman; the best judge is 'Ali bin Abu Talib; the best in reciting the Book of Allah is Ubayy bin Ka'b; the most knowledgeable of what is lawful and unlawful is Mu'adh bin Jabal; and the most knowledgeable of the rules of inheritance (Fara'id) is Zaid bin Thabit. And every nation has a trustworthy guardian, and the trustworthy guardian of this Ummah is Abu 'Ubaidah bin Jarrah.

مگر فرق یہ ہے کہ اس میں زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ کے حق میں: «أفرضهم» کے بجائے«أعلمهم بالفرائض» ہے

Another chain with similar wording (as no. 154) but he said that: Zaid was: The most knowledgeable of them concerning the rules of inheritance.
