تم لوگ مجھے کس کی قرأت کے مطابق پڑھنے کے لیے کہتے ہو؟ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ستر سے زائد سورتیں پڑھیں، اس وقت زید ( زید بن ثابت ) کی دو چوٹیاں تھیں، وہ بچوں کے ساتھ کھیل رہے تھے ۱؎۔

Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: According to whose recitation do you want me to recite? Because I recited seventy-odd Surahs to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] when Zaid had two braids, and was playing with the other boys.

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے ہم سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ تم لوگ مجھ سے زید بن ثابت کی قرأت کے مطابق پڑھنے کو کہتے ہو ۱؎، اس کے بعد کہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ستر سے زائد کئی سورتیں سن چکا ہوں، اس وقت زید بچوں کے ساتھ تھے، ان کی دو چوٹیاں تھیں؟۔

It was narrated that Abu Wa'il said: Ibn Mas'ud addressed us and said: 'How do you want me to recite? According to the recitation of Zaid bin Thabit, when I learned seventy-odd Surahs from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah [SAW] while Zaid was with the other boys with two braids?'

جب وہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس مدینے میں آئے تو آپ نے ان سے فرمایا: ”میرے قریب آؤ“، وہ آپ کے قریب ہوئے تو آپ نے اپنا ہاتھ ان کی چوٹی پر رکھا اور اپنا ہاتھ پھرایا پھر اللہ کا نام لے کر انہیں دعا دی۔

Ziyad bin Al-Husain narrated that his father said: When he came to the Prophet [SAW] in Al-Madinah, the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said to him: 'Come closer to me.' So he came closer to him, and he put his hand on his braid and wiped his head and prayed for him.
